SUMMARY:Wye Valley walk - weekend
DESCRIPTION:Details of the three walks which will take us from Brockhampton to Bredwardine are as follows: \nWalk 1 – Brockhampton to the edge of Hereford. An 8 mile walk\, which would have been the last day walk if the weather hadn’t been against us. We will pass the viewpoint at Capler Camp\, and then walk through the ancient woodland above Fownhope before dropping down into Mordiford\,and taking a more low level route from here. \nWalk 2 is an 8.75 mile walk\, which will take us right through the city of Hereford\, mostly following the river\, and out the other side to Credenhill. We can make a short detour to Hereford Cathedral\, which houses the original Mappa Mundi for those who want to see it. I am then going to skip a three mile section of the WVW\, entirely along a country lane with high hedges both sides\, which is not particularly interesting\, and pick it up again for the third walk where the country lane comes into parkland. \nWalk 3 is the longest and furthest away\, and we may swap around\, so this is not done on the last day. I am going to make this an 11 mile circular walk from Bredwardine\, as the alternative linear would be a 14 mile walk with a big climb up Merbach Hill to get to Hay On Wye – we can save this for the next weekend. The walk will take us through apple orchards owned by Bulmers\, used to make Strongbow Cider\, and Monnington Court with a mile long avenue of Scots pine and yew trees.
