Social Media Policy
Gloucestershire Outdoor Group
Social Media Privacy Policy
Social media is a powerful way of advertising the group and publicising the many great events that the group organises.
However, whilst some are happy to have identifiable images or references to themselves posted on social media, others, for a variety of reasons, may not be. Individuals may have objection on all, some, or even one specific occasion.
That is their right and we must respect it; they do not have to explain why.
Gloucestershire Outdoor Group takes our members and prospective members privacy very seriously.
The group policy is:
DO NOT ASSUME CONSENT. Do not post identifiable personal
images/personal references (names, persona etc) from group events to any social media, whether Gloucestershire Outdoor Group or other, UNLESS you have the permission of those identifiable. If people choose to identify themselves in media posts that is their personal
choice, but do not identify others without consent.
The easiest, most certain and recommended way to ensure policy is followed is to take images that ‘capture the spirit of the event’ rather than identifiable people, but otherwise please ensure the policy as stated above is followed.
On a wider note, even for an individual’s own personal photographic memories, where there is no intention to make images more widely visible, the above policy represents what we hope you would all agree to be both good manners and common-sense and should be followed on all Gloucestershire Outdoor Group events.
To recap, whilst it’s great to have a record of the many excellent events that the group organises, and to explore the fun and benefits of social media, let us all make sure there is no possibility that we infringe anybody’s privacy and potentially prejudice someone’s wellbeing as a result. We recognise social media has both benefits and dis-benefits.
