Goodrich Castle and the Wye Valley Walk

Goodrich Castle and the Wye Valley Walk

One of the great things about the Gloucestershire Outdoor Walking Group is that you get shown places you’ve never been before, even when you’re born ‘n’ bred Glawster.

Goodrich Castle was our meeting point for today’s 10-mile walk.

The first section was a meander along the banks of the mighty Wye, with the clunks and splashes of canoeists as a musical backdrop. The second half, still mostly through woods, took in the climb over Coppett Hill, with the reward of the far-reaching vista towards the peaks of Skirrid and Sugar Loaf.

Easily back before the cafe at the castle shut, we made the most of ‘National Ice Cream Day’, with all ice creams just £1. A perfect end!
